Recently, I realized the importance of frequency of yoga practice for sustaining injury recovery. I had hurt my hamstrings and went through rehab at Virginia Sports Medicine to heal and reduce the scar tissue and which got me back to the soccer field. I had a promotional initial month at Down Dog Yoga and wanted to see what I could gain in flexibility and strength in my legs & core by increasing the frequency of my practices. Doing yoga 4 times a week as opposed to 1-2 times a week helped sustained the benefits I made in the gluteal, hamstring and quadricep functional exercises from the rehab. Yoga unbinds the actin and myosin complex of the muscle fibers. Like anything else, from flossing your teeth to reading to your kids, sustained benefits can only come from committed routine.
