Diabetes patient advocate and former Olympic gold medalist swimmer, Gary Hall, Jr. gave graduating podiatry students at Samuel Merritt a couple things to think about on their journey into the challenges of healthcare.

Hall highlighted the unique opportunity that healthcare workers have on the frontline of being a touchstone to their patients. He related that despite being overwhelmed when he learned his diagnosis About the impact on his swimming career he still remembers the time, concern and effort a diabetes nurse educator gave him In a small small office crammed with diabetes education pamphlets. He concluded by telling the grads to be proud of what you do and that getting to the mountain top is accomplished with baby steps rather than trying to simply focus on being the best.
