|VA Podiatrist Volunteers at SUNY Cross Country Camp
Ben Pearl, DPM spent last week at the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz to help the coaching staff with lower extremity injuries during the cross country camp for high school students with aspirations of running on collegiate teams. Pearl, a former walk-on cross country runner at Indiana University, shared his own experiences dealing with injuries in sports medicine pre- and post-college.
During the week, Dr. Pearl was able to help the athletes with conditions ranging from iliotibial band syndrome to a navicular fracture. He capped the week by giving a talk about the importance of recognizing the need to allow ample time for injuries to heal, and strategies for avoiding them. He also gave the students a look at podiatry and healthcare.
